Canaries Resort

The Resort

With numbers that exceed ten million visitors every year, 32% of the economy of the islands is based on tourism. Canaries

Anyone who visits the Canaries will see that throughout the year the climate is very dry and warm. The weather conditions are one of the reasons why the Canaries are attracting so many visitors who can enjoy the sun on the long stretching beaches where lots of watesports and activities are organised.

Tenerife is one of the most popular destinations there as it combines tradition, which can be found in the north part of the island in Puerto de la Cruz or the island’s capital Santa Cruz, with modernity, vivid nightlife and party atmosphere in the south part especially in the resort of Playa de las Americas, where the beaches run for miles or Los Cristianos.

Gran Canaria which is the largest island of the complex has by far the most impressive sandy dunes and long gold sandy beaches stretching out in hundreds of miles providing the visitor with an overwhelming experience of sun bath and swimming in the deep blue clear waters. The resorts of Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas and Puerto Rico gather all the modern and tastefully furnished restaurants, bars and shops and are very popular in both families and groups of young people.

Fuertenventura is the complex’s most unspoiled and less commercialized island since no more than fifteen years it was basing its income mainly in arts and craft as well as fishing but within the last years it is upgrading rapidly to a popular destination. Its main privilege is that it remains sunny throughout the year with temperature rarely falling under 18 ºC.

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven major Canary Islands and it was declared one of the six universal models of sustainable development by the World Tourism Organization in 1984 and in 1993 it was declared a Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO. What formed the basis of the island’s economy before travel industry took over was mainly fishing and agriculture. Two of the most popular resorts in Lanzarote nowadays, where one can find a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops as well as very good standard of accommodation are Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise, both situated no more than 20’ from Accerife airport.
